A very popular style of eyewear in the 1950’s, especially in the United States, was Browline glasses. Browline glasses were invented by the vice-president of Shuton Ltd an eyewear company Jack Rochrbach in 1947. Today in 2010 Shuron is still producing Browline glasses, and is one of the few companies doing so. Most people are more familiar with today’s Browline glass frames as “Clubmasters” .
Ray Ban is one of biggest producers of the club master styled frames. Ray Ban Clubmasters has been divided into 3 divisions. The original Clubmaster has a much larger frame which is best suitable and targeted towards people who have wider and more rounded faces. Clubmaster II is the exact opposite of the original, it is targeted to people with a much smaller head frame. And finally, there is the Catty Clubmaster which is a combination of Ray Ban Clubmaster design with its fellow Icon group class the Ray Ban’s Cats eyewear.
