ProprHello - Sula

Many of the beauties in life we take for granted or we just are not conscious of them most of the time. Among such beauties are the people we meet while on this roller coaster we call life. People we meet will always leave a mark on us whether it's for the good or bad, and in some instances it can go both ways.

As my journey continues I continue to meet more great people day in and day out. Especially this summer that I have spent here in Montreal. Not saying that I haven't met any great people back in Ottawa, but there is just something here that just vibes with me.

As I had mentioned in a previous post, I was creating a series that consist of photography and capturing life itself. Well this is the first installment of just that. What I am aiming to do is feature friends and people I have encountered throughout my life. These people are beautiful inside and out and will have left a mark on me for many years to come and this is my way of sharing them with you all.

Everyone meet Sula. Like myself she as well is a student in Fashion Marketing, she's actually the cousin of Vanessa who I featured in a post awhile back. Truly a beautiful person inside and out, I keep telling her she needs to hop her butt into modeling professionally. And her style phewww!!! is amazing I must say it must run in her family. She was busy painting her new apartment with Vanessa until I totally barged in wanting to shoot her lol.

I hope you enjoy,

Proprpostur Style Book s/s 2011

This is the first instalment of Spencer Edwards Style Book series. This instalment embraces  the feel of spring / summer styling for 2011.The video experimented with colours that are muted but yet still very vibrant and lively accompanying the feel of the season. What inspired this shooting was the lifestyle of the everyday gentlemen and lady throughout a day to day basis. To achieve this vision filming was done on the downtown streets of Ottawa and Montreal. All styling and filming was done by Spencer Edwards, with kind participation of friends and models from Angie’s Modeling Agency. This project was able to be brought to life and shared with the world of fashion and style.

Progression.

This whole blog has really developed into something I would never expect it to. Just from running this blog I have grown a lot more as a person mentally. Along the way I have met amazing people whether it could be at a fashion event to bumping to someone randomly on the train telling me they managed to come across my blog. Being able to inspire others is probably the greatest feeling that one can have. The thought that others find hope and life in what you share is something that I have never really experienced until now.

Every minute of every day I am always trying to cook up a new way to possibly challenge myself mentally or physically. You can never stop learning your craft, there is nowhere to ever go but up. Down should never be an option. I am a strong believer that if you work hard enough in something that you believe in everything will pan out and come together where it should in the end.

And of course with that you will always have minor setbacks or faults that come across your path. With that being said I have been working on a style film for the past month or two now. And this is just a random idea that popped in my head to just do. I have always had an attraction to style. But this blog has really helped me embrace it, develop it, and give it structure. My film is really a experimental piece in my life. I grabbed a few models who so happened to be great friends of mine I ran my idea and concept by them and I was blessed enough to have them hop on board. I can’t wait to share it with all my readers and friends. And get some feedback from everyone, who care to continue to help me grow and learn.

Electric Relaxation

Relaxation is desperately needed on my end as of late. The exams, projects, and finals really had been taking its tole on me mentally.  I just needed a moment to really kick back and get away from it all and have a bit of me time. Dominic ( fellow school mate) and I headed over to this near by cafe for escape.

Check out Dom's BLOG

When in my state of relaxation it really allows me to create and paint pictures mentally. Without any disturbances or interruptions I thought to myself how much I love and appreciate the element of creation, is there really anything else that you can get more pleasure out of than creating something? Whether it’s a song, painting, dance, etc.
My creative process really consist of a billion images, quotes, songs, paints just racing through my mind in a second.Every once in a while, my brain hits on a winning combination. Instantly, this exciting new idea pops into my conscious awareness, and I begin to work on it. It’s truly the greatest place I could ever be at any given time, what I find strange about the process. Is that after everything is all said and done it may not make sense to others, but I prefer it that way. Imagine living in a world without logic, just creation.

"If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary-wise; what it is it wouldn't be, and what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?"

I ran into this quote the other day and it really stuck to me. It takes a lot of confidence to completely go through and trust you visions with everything you got. At times it can be scary even nerve racking to show other individuals your work. Some may be jealous, some just may completely ignore it, others may hate it, and others may love it. Its all about trial and error learn from what you have done to enhance it not necessarily "mistakes".Creativity feeds off of relaxation. Relaxing is the only way to give your unconscious mind a chance to combine everything you know and everything you are thinking with everything else you know and everything else you are thinking until it hits on something wonderful. You need to completely let go and let your intuition and feelings take over.

Decisions Decisions

First off I want to say thank you to everyone who contributed their thoughts on Style Vs. Fashion whether it was via Blogspot, Facebook, Twitter,  or Tumblr. This week I will get a chance to head back home to Ottawa to attend Ottawa Fashion Week. Last time I attended I met a lot of great individuals and was a great experience for me; hopefully I can get some great footage to share with you all. On another good note it’s been raining a lot lately here in Montreal, why is this good? Well why else the snow is melting away making way for spring. I really don’t want to jinx it though I won’t be surprised if we get another sudden snow storm or two.

Pashmina - N/A

We have all had one of those purchases when  we are in the store its looks epic, but when we get the garment home and take a good look at we are disgusted and confused. I have had one of those recent episodes with the green blazer I am wearing. I have no clue to what I was thinking when I purchased it but I hope next time I have a bit more sense. I hung it up in my room and a few days past by and I walked by my closet and the blazer really caught my eye. I took a real hard look at it was completely disgusted at first. I wasn’t sure if I should keep it or somehow dispose of it. Before doing any drastic action I decided to give the blazer a chance to live and see how I could possibly work it in to a look.

After experimenting with different looks to throw this blazer with, this is the one I was most satisfied with. I grew pretty fond of the blazer after wearing I just grew on me. What do you guys think? YAY OR NAY? The really vibrant green was what really through me off but it’s not that bad, is it?

There are many things in life that we can all agree on that you technically really can't be taught. Such as having passion, emotion, making companions, and many other things that come with just living life.

There are many things in life that we can all agree on that you technically really can't be taught. Such as having passion, emotion, making companions, and many other things that come with just living life.

Another thing you can't be taught is how to have your own personal sense and feel of style. A lot of times individuals may get lost in what is the difference between fashion and style. Many times I have conversations with friends about style vs. fashion and frequent questions that rise are. What is fashion? what is style? what came first? can you have one without the other?

I am not in anyway in the position to try and dictate what is right and what is wrong and try and get everyone to follow my lead. But, what I can do is share my own personal opinion on this matter and hopefully all my followers and whom ever comes across my blog can share their's as well. This should be more of a community more than anything.

Personally, I am a lover of personal style whether its punk, medal, skater, rock, timeless etc. Whatever it may be I think every style has its own story and structure behind it. Style is being able to get any garment and wear it in your own way. For example, if i wear to give a prep influenced person and a metal style influenced person the same garment. They would both find a way to wear it in their own way to fit their style and be able to be comfortable.

Fashion on the other hand I feel tries to dictate to the world who they are and what they should be wearing. Whether its a specific designer, color, or just due to the season. And many at times fall into this, and end up spending hundreds upon thousands of dollars on garments just because it is what is currently hot at the time. But when the next season or year comes around they will be on to the next and the previous set of garments they purchased would end up forgotten there is no longevity in that. But some people are into that I guess.

Style however allows you to wear whatever you are wearing from when you are 20 to 95. Everyone's style somewhat defines who they are to a certain extent.
Being comfortable and confident in what you wear is also an element of style. Imitating what you may see over the internet and television just might not work for you ( we've all been there ). Due to the fact that it's way out of your comfort zone. At time your comfort level can be written all over your face.

Developing and constructing your style takes years. I myself am still developing myself as well I don't consider myself better than the next person.

But always try and keep in mind who you are, and what you want to portray and eventually we will all get there.

Inspired By: Jake Davis

This man has had as much as inspiration in my life as most kids would say Michael Jackson or Michael Jordan. Jake Davis' work is always amazing, his way of capturing culture, style, grace and individuality in every film that he does is truly breathtaking in many ways. Even his 00:30 - 01:00 test shot series are enough to leave you craving and wanting more I highly suggest everyone take a minute and really look into this man and all his work. I promise you wont regret it.

Thrifting Guide

Follow Me:

A great number of people dislike thrift stores, for a number of reasons. Often people feel they are “above” thrift stores, that thrift stores carry nothing but junk, or that thrift stores are dark, dirty, and depressing. While there certainly are some pretty dismal thrift stores out there, most are fairly clean and well-organized stores that weed out the broken, filthy, and otherwise unusable before putting stock on the sales floor. And the customers come from all walks of life, from street-walking transvestites to trendy college kids to retired heiresses.
I took some time out and decided to create my own little guide to thrift shopping as well my outfit features pieces that I have found at thrift stores besides the socks enjoy.

Know surrounding areas: I've noticed that thrift stores get placed. In areas of high traffic or cluster busy areas. So get to know your areas and where there maybe other thrift stores surrounding you.

Select a day: To get a great outcome from thrifting and find great pieces, you must take your time. Thrifting isn't really something you can do on a 30 minute break on a hectic schedule. To find great pieces you it takes a lot of time and effort. And even then you might not find anything you may like.

Be open minded:  One of the fun things about thrifting is that you will see things that lend themselves to uses quite different from their original intended functions. For example, a waste-basket can hold poster tubes, a suitcase can act as a coffee table, a record crate can be turned sideways to organize binder’s, books, files, etc. Keep your eyes as well as your mind open for objects the might fill a need in an unusual and interesting way. But at the same time do not get carried away with your purchases just due to the fact it’s at a low price. I myself must admit I have made a lot of purchases that i look at today and say to myself " what on earth was I thinking" and they just end up sitting there collecting dust.

Be aware of sales/specialsThe subtitle speaks for itself; I have entered thrift stores completely oblivious to why it would be so packed, busy, and hectic as usual. And little did I know I was in middle of a 50% sale, and for those who have ever been to a 50% sale at a thrift store. Know they are pretty hectic, so prepare yourself and get there as early as possible to avoid the rush.

Know what it is that you want: Thrift stores aren't only great for unique  and vintage clothing pieces, but as well you can have great household accessories. Such as kitchen ware, books, office supplies, etc. Furniture is also something that they carry. But of course while purchasing these items be sure that they are attractive, what you need, and it’s in good quality. Take a good time out to scan and analyze before you make a purchase. You don't want to purchase something you may end up regretting or returning.

Prepare for a miss:  Thrift shopping is really a hit or miss adventure.  At your average store you can walk in knowing you will most likely find what it is that you want/need. Thrifting is great because you can find pieces that would not be carried anywhere else. Giving you that great unique style and look. However, with this you may not find anything at all, that’s where being creative and open minded can really kick in and save the day. To hopefully help you explore and give that piece that you don't think you would ever wear. A chance and try it out and possibly purchase it.

POLAR TOG

Follow Me:

http://www.proprpostur.com/

Happy New Year!!! I hope everyone enjoyed themselves last night but in a safe and healthy manner. Its a new year, so lets kick things off with something a bit different from what I Usually do. Recently I met up with teo friends of mine who are currently working on a project called Polar Tog. I did a little short video, ( my first video I have ever really made lol ) so please show your mercy.

"It’s really not about just clothing or fashion, it’s more like a movement, a way to standout and to express ourselves in this globe where billions of others’ live." It’s about two minds reuniting their knowledge towards doing something positive, something that’s been done, but with a twist of Canadian culture and pure patriotism to ours roots and our beliefs.

You could be a single person or even have a posse in this world, but no matter where you’re heading you’ll always be labeled to something. That being said, being labeled to something comes with great responsibilities…

Meaning everywhere you go, you should be heading towards that direction in a mindset where you acknowledge the fact that you’re playing the role of an ambassador for your labels, and you never want to fail the mission of standing out and playing that role the best way possible. Polar Tog will take Canadian couture to an extend where the whole world will respect its roots, recognized it as one of the top names in the fashion and clothing industries for the next few decades, till perfection takes place obviously…

All we have at moment is a dollar and a dream; it may not sound like much but as I recall most successors in this world we live in all started in a similar state we’re in. [David] “Growing up my mom always encouraged me to draw on everything I could possibly draw on, by everything I mean completely everything I could possibly trace a thought on, including the walls. That thought was completely organic to me, as strange as it may sound coming from a mother, but growing up made me realized how essential that stage of my life was. Now I’m able to express myself in a variety of ways, and I feel like the clothing business is the most
spontaneous way to do so.”

This dream will take most of our commitment, but my comrade and I share a mutual thought where we both agree on, which is “if at age 50 we’re not wearing Rolex watches on our wrist, we failed to succeed in life…” The goal is at the end of the day, saying people wearing our label and feeling the comfort in doing so. We’re 90’s babies, and we’re definitely bringing the ‘retrosuperfuture’ steez to the surface on earth!

Happy new year  & respect your resolutions please!

Sincerely yours,

David N. & Kendji P. – Polar Tog
